The question centers around intention and capacity. Did they have the capacity, as adolescents with a corresponding brain, to link intention with negative and unfixable consequences such as death. Did they, in their impulsivity and planning, want a burning or did they want damage? Was their intention flawed in its inception because they lacked full reasoning capacity or should their punishment reflect the damage of victims absent of the neurological reality of adolescents? Who are they criminally? Adolescents or defendants.
